Science needs the written word. Producing extensive printed works such as a Bachelor's or Master's thesis or even a dissertation requires some “non-specialist” knowledge, particularly in the field of typography. The LaTeX typesetting system stands out because it was created specifically for creating scientific texts. Its strength lies in the fact that LaTeX allows authors to concentrate more on the actual subject area, as LaTeX takes care of the typography of the document.
The aim of the course is to lay the foundations for creating a complex thesis using LaTeX. Topics are
- the EVA principle,
- the structure of an input file,
- the creation of a PDF output file
- Structuring the text with the help of headings
- Creating cross-references
- Entering formulas
- Designing tables
- Incorporating illustrations
- Literature management
Students may bring their own laptops.
